Insurance Coverage

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW):
It is included in your rental amount.
Collision damage waiver reduces the customer’s damage responsibility to the excess/deductible amount.
The maximum excess amount for all car categories 1200 USD, except negligence.

Third Party Liability (TPL):

It is included in the rental amount, as required by Costa Rican law. This coverage protects against damages or injuries caused to third parties but does not cover damage to the rental vehicle. Coverage may be void in cases of gross negligence or if the vehicle is driven by an unauthorized driver.

Customers who decline CDW and use personal or credit card insurance are required to purchase TPL0, which extends liability protection and reduces third-party responsibility to zero.

TPL0 is available at an additional daily cost and must be confirmed at the rental desk.

Theft Waiver (THW) 
It is not included in your rental amount.
The maximum excess amount in case of total or partial theft of the rented vehicle is 80% market’s car price value except negligence.
Please Note: Partial theft is not included in Theft Waiver, for example if someone steals the radio customer will have to pay for the radio or any damage below the deductible.

Transferable Insurance Coverage
Credit card insurance is accepted only if the customer provides a letter from the bank or insurance company confirming coverage in Costa Rica, specifying the coverage amount, car model, and the customer’s name. If CDW is declined, a deposit of $3,000 will be required.

Excess Reduction
Excess reduction is available at a cost of $20.34 per day ($18 plus 13% tax). This coverage reduce the excess amount to $800 USD unless negligence occurs.
Breakdown assistance is included when this coverage is selected. It can be purchased at the rental desk.

1. In case of accident customer must provide to the rental agency the accident report given by the Transit Officer and the accident report with the Insurance Inspector and must report the accident to the rental agency immediately after the event takes place. Otherwise, insurance will be void. Where possible, please do not leave the vehicle unattended and wait for assistance.
2. If the accident or damage takes place in a rural area, the lessee must proceed to give a statement at the nearest Judicial or Police authority in the area and submit all documentation provided (statement report) to our rental office. It is mandatory to submit the corresponding statement made to the competent judicial authority indicated in the official ticket, for purposes of coverage implementation and effectiveness.
3. Vandalism damages, tow truck and road assistance due to negligence is not included.
4. Insurance does not cover damages of any type caused by driving through rivers, lakes, beaches, mangroves, and flooded roads or off-road, this will void any insurance coverage and customers would be responsible for damages.
5. No coverage covers if the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the event.
6. No coverage applies when a rented vehicle is driven by an unauthorized driver.
7. CDW coverage does not cover, vandalism damage, theft glass damage, flat tires, wheels, keys or accessories. In the event that the damage is caused by factors other than a collision with another vehicle, THE CLIENT must assume full responsibility for the damage to the rented vehicle.
8. Damages caused to the inside of the vehicle, including upholstery of the car, loss of car’s keys or documents, license plates, emergency kits are not included in the insurance. Charges apply according to damages or loss and appraisal.
9. The renter and any additional drivers are absolutely liable for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle, even when the loss or damage is caused by a third party or in the event the cause is unknown, whether because of theft, collision, vandalism or any other cause.

Vehicle Condition
You must return the vehicle in the same condition as it was in when you received it, minus the normal wear and tear. The Supplier will charge you at their own rates for any excessive staining/soiling and/or for both internal and external damage (including strong smells). You are responsible for inspecting the vehicle upon pick-up/drop-off and for the cost of any new damage found at the end of your rental period.

Driver Age
The minimum driver’s age is 21 years and the maximum is 75 years old.
A young driver surcharge of USD 10 per day will apply for driver’s age from 21 years to 22 years old.
No senior driver surcharge are applied.

Driver’s License
Drivers must hold a full and valid license for at least 2 years with no major endorsements. Also, a valid ID card or passport would be required at time of pick up.
Customers from US, Canada and Australia can drive on their domestic driving license.
An International Driver’s License (IDL) is mandatory if the renter’s national driving license is not in Roman or English alphabet. International driver license must be accompanied by the original domestic license of the driver.

Provisional permissions or unread driver´s license is not accepted.
The following documents are mandatory to present at the time of vehicle pickup: Passport, Driver's license.

Fees:

1. License plate fee of $2 USD will apply per rental.

2. If the vehicle keys are lost or stolen, a fee of $400 USD will apply.

3. You are responsible for the cost of any parking fines, tolls and any other penalties plus a $100 USD administration fee.

4. In case of loss of original vehicle documents, a fee of $300 USD will apply.

5. In case of wrong fuel, a fee of $1,200 USD will apply.

6. If car is returned dirty, a charge of $250USD will apply depending on the level of cleaning required.

7. Pets are allowed in the vehicle. If the car is returned with pet-related smells or dirty upholstery, a cleaning fee of $250 may be charged.

8. Smoking in the car is prohibited, and if Client smoke in the car a fee of $250 USD will apply.

Breakdown Assistance
Breakdown assistance is available free of charge when the client takes the zero deductible insurance.

If assistance is required due to customers fault a charge of minimum of $250 USD will apply. Relevant contact details and roadside assistance procedures will be given prior to the commencement of the hire. 

Off-road driving
Off-road driving is strictly prohibited. The vehicle may only be used on paved, public roads.
Driving through rivers, lakes, or similar terrain is not allowed.
Any damage resulting from off-road use will not be covered by insurance and will be fully charged to the customer.

 Fuel Policy
Full to Full
The customer must return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel provided at the time of check out. If the fuel tank is not returned at the same level, a fee of $15/liter will apply.
Unused fuel is not refundable. Fuel charges are payable at the rental desk unless otherwise stated. Supplier's fuel policies change from time to time. 

Mileage Policy
Unlimited

Cross border Travel
Cross border travel is not allowed.

Tax Rate
Tax is included in the rental price.

Payment Methods
Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover are accepted and must be in the main renter's name while paying at the rental desk. Credit, debit, and cash payments accepted for rental.
For deposit only credit card on the main driver name are accepted. 

Deposit
A refundable deposit ranging from USD 800 to USD 1,200 will be held from the credit card until the car is returned. If the customer uses personal insurance, the deposit amount will be USD 3000.

Delivery and collection
Delivery and collection service is available with a fee 50 USD for the hotels nearby the office.
Please check at the rental desk for more details and charges.

Out of Hours
Out of hours service is available and the charges are USD 100 per pickup and drop off. 

Grace Period
Pick-up: 1 hour grace period from the schedule time of pickup is allowed. If the customer comes to pick up the vehicle after the grace period the booking will be considered as "No-show".
Return: 1 hour grace period is for returning vehicles. If the customer comes to return the vehicle after the grace period, an additional charge will apply.

Extras
Confirmation of Special Equipment’s depends upon the availability at the rental desk.
